Can Dogs Eat Cantaloupe?
Why it’s a sometimes-food
Cantaloupe is mostly water and offers vitamins A and C plus beta-carotene, but it is one of the sugariest melons. That makes it a poor choice for overweight or diabetic dogs, and large portions can loosen stools.
How to serve it safely
Remove the rind and seeds, then cube the flesh. Two or three cubes for a medium dog is plenty — and skip it entirely for diabetic dogs.
Warning signs to watch for
Too much can cause drooling, diarrhea and bloating; dogs who eat the rind may vomit.
When to call the vet
If your dog eats the rind and starts vomiting or straining, call your vet — big pieces of rind can block the gut.
Common questions
Can dogs eat cantaloupe rind?
No. The rind is tough, hard to digest and a genuine blockage risk. Flesh only.
Can dogs eat honeydew melon?
Yes — same rules as cantaloupe: no rind, no seeds, small portions.
