Can Cats Eat Raspberries?

One or two occasionally are fine, but raspberries carry trace natural xylitol and lots of fiber.

Why it’s a sometimes-food

Raspberry flesh is non-toxic, but raspberries contain small amounts of naturally occurring xylitol — harmless at treat-size portions, but a reason not to push quantities. Their fiber load also causes loose stools quickly in a small carnivore gut.

How to serve it safely

Offer one or two berries, fresh or thawed, as a rare novelty — never more.

Warning signs to watch for

Too many berries cause vomiting, diarrhea and gas; sustained large amounts are unwise because of the xylitol traces.

When to call the vet

Call your vet if diarrhea lasts more than a day after raspberry treats.

Common questions

Are frozen raspberries okay?

Yes, thawed, one or two at a time. Frozen berries are just as safe — the limit is quantity, not temperature.
